Beauty is only part of a blossom's allure. From "ordinary" dandelions to rare orchids, each flower is an intricate living jewel with a complex and fascinating life story. INCOLAY has taken great care in reproducing the artist's interpretation with the exacting and intricate detail of each delicate fleur on our exquisite jewel and decorative cases.
The history of attaching meanings to flowers evolved simultaneously in different parts of the world. The Greeks and the Hindus of India used flowers to display devotion and adornment to their gods and goddesses. An example of this is the rose, cherished by Venus and still a symbol of love today. Many of our present day meanings date back to the middle ages. Flowers have long been linked with romance, and in the 1700's a French writer published a dictionary of flowers and their meanings. The following are a few of INCOLAY'S favorites:
Buttercup: Childlike
Daisy: Innocence; Loyal Love; Purity
Iris: Emblem of France; Friendship, Faith, Hope, Wisdom and Valor
Lilac: Beauty
Mistletoe: Sacred plant of India; Kiss Me; Affection
Pansy: You occupy my thoughts; Merriment
Poppy: State flower of California, Pleasure, Wealth, Success, and Consolation
Rose: Love
Rosebud: Beauty of Youth; A Heart of Innocent Love
